Spotlighting Gas Turbine Technology Laboratory (GTTL) employees in commemoration of Greenville site’s 25-year milestone of innovation and testing excellence. Discover the journey to 25 years in the video below.
Earlier this month, Greenville celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Gas Turbine Technology Lab (GTTL), marking a milestone not only for the facility itself, but for the generations of GE Vernova employees whose talent, dedication, and innovation have defined its legacy.
For 25 years, the GTTL building has stood as a hub of engineering excellence, collaboration, and technological advancement, supporting the development of critical gas turbine solutions that have shaped the energy industry.
The anniversary celebration honored both the history of the site and the people behind its success, recognizing the teams, leaders, and longtime employees who helped build its strong foundation and continue to drive its future forward.
In light of the celebration, we would like to take the time to spotlight two GTTL employees, Engineering Manager Will Moore and GM of Component & Development Tests Leslie Miller about their experiences.
What does this milestone mean to you?
Will: All of my 18 years with GE Vernova have been in the lab. Although I was still in college when it was built, I still feel that I have done as much to shape the lab’s future as this lab has shaped my career. I’ve been a part of many of the improvements that have kept us growing and look forward to helping shape what comes next.
Leslie: The anniversary not only celebrates a major accomplishment in delivering innovative products for 25 years, it also signifies a continuum of test and learn that goes back to GE’s origin and should continue long after we are gone.
What’s been your most treasured memory of the lab, this team, and your work here over the years?
Will: Celebrating the 25th anniversary with the team was incredibly special. After having a day to catch up with my former colleagues, I thought back on the time I had spent with everyone for hours. Getting to see all the people that had been such an important part of the waking hours of my life really reinforced the fact that it’s the team that you surround yourself with that matters the most. My only regret is not having time to talk to everyone more!
Leslie: I have lots of great memories, but serving as test director with a large team from CDT and Engineering at remote sites like Baglan Bay (9H), Arcos de la Frontera (9FB), and Inland Empire (7H) stand out.
What motivates you?
Will: I always look forward to the next problem that can’t be solved. There are always novel challenges that pop up in a lab, and no two are ever alike. Having something new to do after years in a role is truly a gift that keeps giving.
Leslie: Sustaining and improving a world class organization, system validation process, instrumentation and data acquisition technologies, and facilities.
The work you do has global impact. What does that mean to you?
Will: In my role I get the opportunity to walk around with customers and share the work we do with them. I love getting to connect with people from every continent on this earth and consistently get feedback about how world class and groundbreaking the work is that we do on a daily basis. There really is no other place in the world that can do what our lab does, and we get to wake up to that 5 days a week!
Leslie: We have a global team that works closely together to deliver for global customers, united in passion for our products and our mission.
What does The Energy of Change mean to you? How do you see the spirit of this reflected in the work of GTTL?
Will: One of the best parts of this job is we get to validate every novel engineering design that our design partners are able to conceptualize. Instead of digging into a single component of a single frame, we get to touch it all and usher the latest technologies into our next generation of products.
Leslie: Our facilities, mission, scope and scale are always adapting to the evolving needs of our expanding customers.
What’s it been like to watch the evolution of the lab and work with this team over the years?
Will: What I love about this team is that we have so many people with a broad range of experiences and expertise. At the end of the day we are all dedicated to maintaining this lab as a world class facility by keeping our aging assets in good repair and continually increasing our capabilities with millions of dollars in capital investments. It really reinforces what we do here when we see the business continue to reinvest year after year to keep our world class validation status.
Leslie: I am proud to be part of it, and to know and learn from the pioneers of our products and test technology
What are you most excited for in the future of the lab—and working at GE Vernova?
Will: I am really excited about the opportunity the current business cycle offers. Having the people and resources to tackle some of the challenges that we’ve been facing for years is invigorating. We’ve been waiting for a moment like this to have the right skills in place to begin the dauting process of automating more and more of the manual functions of our job. I think with the AI boom on the horizon and this team that we’ve put in place, we’re in a solid position to grow into the future!
Leslie: I am most excited for the new products that we don’t know about yet. CDT works as a flywheel… every new technology or capability we introduce and build pays off in multiples of unexpected opportunities to innovate.
As we celebrate the 25th anniversary, we thank all of the outstanding people at GTTL whose expertise and dedication over the years have continued to drive the future of energy forward at GE Vernova.
